Flora Morris Brown, Ph.D.
Author, Coach, Speaker,
Radio Host |
Biography
Flora Morris Brown is an author, coach, speaker, radio host, entrepreneur, mom of four and grandma of three. She has impacted the lives of students, educators, business owners, leaders and many audiences during her 40+ year career. Her passion for encouraging people to make choices that lead to their happiness began when she was a junior high inner city English teacher and continued to grow deeper as she worked with university students, her own private tutoring program, and with retailers and business owners.
She is a Professor Emeritus at Fullerton College and hosts the Internet radio show, Color Your Life Happy, www.BlogTalkRadio.com/florabrown , broadcasted live from Anaheim every Monday morning at 11AM PST.
Her most important job has been as a parent of four children and now grandmother of three. You’ll see that as you read the many anecdotes about her children throughout the book.
Here’s what Flora says about parenting, “Why is the most important job in the Universe left up to chance? No application, no screening, no interview. We show up at this job unprepared for what’s ahead, fumbling through with on-the-job training. Parenting is like taking a test based on watching other people take it, but never having actually studied the material yourself. And scariest of all, you may not find out how you scored until decades after the test.”
Her educational background as a USC graduate includes a BA in English with a minor in Drama, a M.S. in Education with a specialization in reading, and a Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction. She has written language arts texts, academic articles, curriculum, grant proposals, and motivational guides. She maintains a number of websites, two blogs and publishes two weekly newsletters.
Her book, Color Your Life Happy, promotes making choices that give you the life you want. Here’s what one review said about the book.
“We have coached hundreds of individuals who were emotionally devastated living ‘life.’ They were far from being able to see or feel joy. Flora has put together a tremendous tool to help people experience the joy beyond the pain. Her passionate joy for life will spill over and touch many people in a profound way.” Richmond and Debbie Caldwell, speakers and authors of Changing Your Heart.
Color Your Life Happy is available on and off line from all major booksellers.
The philosophy she lives by is "Nobody becomes somebody without the help of somebody else." |

Color Your Life Happy
Create the Success, Abundance and Inner Joy You Deserve
 |
Color Your Life Happy is not a one-size-fits-all approach since each of us experiences happiness in our way. It offers hope for those who feared that they would have to go through a major life overhaul to be happy. Without requiring that we get rid of personal flaws or fix weaknesses, it gives ways to build on our strengths to make the choices that lead to a meaningful and fulfilling life.
Color Your Life Happy is based on the premise that the average baby is born equipped to be happy and joyful. Depending on our upbringing and circumstances, as we grow up this inborn joy is developed and flourishes or is discouraged and buried. Color Your Life Happy makes the reader aware that this inner joy is within reach and is a matter of making choices. No major life overhaul is required to carry out the suggestions and activities offered to meet challenges and cope with the inevitable obstacles and adversity.

Flora Morris Brown, Ph.D., author of "Color Your Life Happy," recently held a meet-and-greet event and book signing at the Anaheim Embassy Suites.
During the event, the Anaheim Hills resident shared her vision for the self-help/personal growth book, highlighting sections that engaged her audience in participatory exercise, using humor to exemplify a realistic strategy for happiness.
And since most people would rather have a happy life than the alternative, the easy-to-read book offers the tools and how to apply them. Practical principles combined with Brown's personal life experiences and those of others she has met along the way serve to define the book's premise: taking control of your life and finding inner joy and happiness. She incorporates positive psychology, ancient truths, poetry, and cartoons in the book to further illustrate her message.
Suggestions and activities in the book help the reader learn to face challenges, cope with unavoidable obstacles and adversity and to make choices that can lead to a meaningful and fulfilling life.
Brown has over 40 years of experience in the educational, writing and inspirational speaking field.
In addition to her latest endeavor, Brown is a life coach, speaker, consultant and entrepreneur who hosts a local radio program, maintains six websites, three blogs and publishes two newsletters. All share a commonality — her positive approach of not only discovering happiness, but to staying happy.
A dynamic motivational speaker with a straightforward every day technique, she customizes her presentation to fit her audience needs whether at the corporate level, a nonprofit organization or an academic group.
She graduated from the University of Southern California with a bachelor's degree in English and a minor in drama; has an M.S. in education with a specialization in reading and a Ph.D. in curriculum and instruction; and is a professor emeritus at Fullerton College.
Brown lives by the mantra, "Nobody becomes somebody without the help of somebody else."
"Color Your Life Happy" is available in bookstores such as Borders and Barnes and Noble or may be ordered directly from her Web site at www.coloryourlifehappy.com. What Counts in Your Life?
It was just minutes before the Mistress of Ceremonies introduced me. I listened from backstage ready to give a speech to over 200 retailers at the L.A. Gift Mart in downtown Los Angeles. I felt regal in my two-piece Jones of New York purple wool suit and was especially proud that my three-inch heels were a perfect match.
As I stepped closer to hear the introduction, I twisted my ankle slightly, and the heel on my left shoe pried lose from my shoe.
Somehow I hobbled onto stage and gave my talk.
That was many years ago. I would be lying if I told you that I was at ease during that talk. I was self-conscious, flustered and let that broken heel almost undo me. My appearance counted a lot to me in those days.
And yet, It was unlikely that anyone in the audience saw my feet, much less knew that my heel was broken. I was on an elevated stage behind a podium.
Have you ever let something like a broken heel or snagged nail dampen your mood, maybe even throw you into a frenzy or cause you physical, mental or emotional upset?
Too often we place importance on things, material things. Things that have absolutely no power except the power that we give them. We scream at our children over a broken glass or call our spouse an idiot because he forgot the milk on the grocery list.
It's dangerous to give power to things. If you give power to things then you may think that a recession or the loss of a job means the end of your world instead of just turning points in your life. Or worse, you may utter words that do irreparable harm to someone you love.
